Canvas Waterproof Seam Sealer

Stitching is the weak point on any canvas gear. After years of use, seams and needle holes can start to let water through, especially where a repair has been sewn in by hand. This water-based sealer soaks into the stitching and leaves a clear, flexible waterproof film over the seam.

Where to use it

  • tent, swag and awning seams that have started to weep in heavy rain
  • new stitching after a repair, including around a patch from our Canvas Patch Repair Kit
  • bivvies, gear bags and waterproof clothing with untaped seams

How it works

It's a water-based styrene-acrylic polymer dispersion. Brushed onto a seam, the liquid soaks into the stitching and needle holes, then dries clear, flexible and impermeable, so it moves with the fabric instead of cracking.

It contains no VOCs, is non-toxic, and washes off with water until it has dried.

How to apply

  1. Test on a small, out-of-sight area first to check it suits the fabric.
  2. Shake the bottle well, then pour a little into a cup or dish.
  3. Use a small brush to apply a thin film over the seam, covering the stitching or hole.
  4. Leave it 15–25 minutes to cure, until it's clear and dry. Wipe off any spills with water before they dry.
