Rooftop Tents

Yes. On every tent, standard bedding, sheets and sleeping bags can stay stored right inside the closed tent. The TX27 and TX27 MAX have 190mm (7.5in) above the mattress and the AX27 more than 120mm (4.7in), so there's room for pillows and doonas too. The LX27 Gen 2 has 70mm (2.8in). That saves space in your vehicle and keeps your bedding clean and dust free.

A clamshell (LX27 Gen 2, AX27) hinges at one end, so it's lighter and lower and up in about 30 seconds, with the most headroom at the entry end. A double-action tent (TX27, TX27 MAX) lifts at both ends, pop-up style, for near-full headroom from end to end, and is up in about 60 seconds.

In most cases, yes. Thousands of customers have fitted our tents to a variety of vehicles, vans and camper trailers. Our tents weigh 81–133kg (179–293 lb) without the ladder. As with any roof-mounted gear, add up the tent, your rack or canopy and anything on top, and confirm the total is within your vehicle's and rack's dynamic roof load ratings (the rating while driving, which is lower than the static rating when parked). Check the overall height too. If you're unsure, ask our team or a stockist.

Every tent comes with fitment brackets: the LX27 Gen 2 has six brackets that mount to the side of its foot rails for securing to load bars, and the AX27, TX27 and TX27 MAX come with the Rooftop Tent Universal Fitment Set. We also have mounting options for alloy canopies, low-profile setups and cab clearance. Tents can be fitted with the open end at the rear of the vehicle, or in reverse with the open end facing forward and the ladder secured to a roof rack on the cab; a reversed tent needs the Rooftop Tent Dead Bolt Bracket for extra protection against it opening while you drive. Yes. The body is dual-layer acrylic-treated polyester ripstop canvas, and automotive-grade rubber seals keep the closed tent dust free and watertight. A wrap-around rainfly covers the front and sides of the tent (the TX27 and TX27 MAX also have a smaller rainfly over the rear window). It covers the ladder and entryway so you can get in and out dry, stops water pooling against the doorways, and lets you keep a window or vent open in the rain.

Before your first trip, open the tent and wet the canvas down so the stitching thread swells and seals the stitch holes. Condensation can still form inside on cold nights, as in any tent: keep a window or vent open for airflow, and let the tent dry out fully after each trip. The two canvas layers work like double glazing: the air gap between them insulates the inner layer, which significantly reduces condensation on the inside walls. The marine carpet underlay under each mattress is designed to help reduce condensation beneath it.

Yes. The custom-made, heavy-duty stainless steel over-centre latches on all our rooftop tents have holes for a padlock, so you can lock the tent closed.
